Cork, Wine and Olive Oil
Inside a Cork Oak Forest
Évora countryside
Walk through the montado, the cork oak landscape that defines the Alentejo.

Cork, Wine and Olive Oil
Follow a plank of cork from the factory yard to the finished object: the boiling, the punching, the stoppers — and a showroom of bags, hats and boards.
The story
The planks arrive from the harvest and rest for months in the factory yard, stacked in great dark towers to season. Inside, the air smells of warm wood and rain. Guests follow the journey of the bark as it is boiled and flattened, then watch the punch cut the first stoppers from the best strips — the offcuts never wasted, ground and pressed into flooring, insulation and the objects the Alentejo makes like nowhere else. The visit ends in the factory's own showroom, where bags, hats, wallets and tables in natural cork sit beside the raw material that made them, and the family explains what a good plank feels like in the hand.
The day
A cork factory wastes nothing: offcuts become flooring, insulation and objects, and the oak keeps giving bark for generations.
