A First Taste of the Alentejo
Three days to breathe out: cork oaks, one long lunch and an evening that goes nowhere fast.

Trip Idea
Seven days the long way round, from border castles to the Atlantic, at the pace of the country.
The idea
A week is long enough to cross the whole Alentejo and still come home rested. The route runs north to south: the green mountains and border castles of the Alto Alentejo, the marble towns and megaliths of the centre, the great lake and its dark skies, and, at the end, the Atlantic. Nights are few and bases are few — three, no more — so the days are spent in the country rather than in the car. Nothing is fixed in advance; the ideas below become the week we build together.
Not a schedule
None of this is fixed and nothing below is pre-booked. These are the doors we can open in any order, or leave shut — tell us which ones move you and we will build the days around them.
The royal stud at Alter do Chão, the ramparts of Marvão in the clouds, and the old Jewish quarter of Castelo de Vide — the green north, where the frontier with Spain is a lunch away.
Estremoz, Borba and Vila Viçosa, built and paved in marble, and the standing stones of the Almendres at sunrise, older than Stonehenge.
Two evenings in lake country: a dusk boat among the islands, dinner in Monsaraz, and a telescope under a certified Dark Sky.
A morning with the shepherd, a jeep safari among the free-range pigs and cattle, cork harvest in summer or truffle hunting in winter — the working plains, seasonal by nature.
Down to the Sado and the coast for the last days: dolphins in the estuary, rice fields and storks at Comporta, and cliffs above the sea on the Costa Vicentina.
If the dates are right, a village table where the two-voice singing rises between courses — UNESCO heritage, sung by the people who have always sung it.
What is included
Starting from €4,650 per person, based on two travelling together. A starting point, never a quote: the final price follows your dates, your group and the stays and experiences we choose together.
Where you stay
Three bases — the northern hills, the centre or the lake, and the coast — each chosen for quiet, space and good food. We confirm the exact places for your dates.
