The story

The Lusitano is one of the oldest saddle horses in Europe, and the Alentejo is where it is still bred with the greatest care. Ride out from a family stud farm along the old stone walls, through cork and holm oaks, as the light turns gold over the plains. Your guide matches each horse to its rider, so the ride suits beginners and experienced riders alike.

The day

What you do

  1. 1Meet the horses and choose your pace with the rider who trains them
  2. 2Ride through the montado along stone walls and farm tracks
  3. 3Return to the stud courtyard for a glass of wine at sunset

Gentle on the land

Rides follow farm tracks on working estates, where grazing horses help keep the montado open and healthy.
